First Class Mail Vs Standard Mail

When it comes to direct mail, there are several factors that come into play. Two of the most important considerations are price and speed of delivery. In this article, we compare first class mail vs standard mail and highlight their key differences in terms of cost and speed of delivery.

First class mail (also known as marketing mail) is a great option for sending postcards, letters, thick envelopes and lightweight packages. It’s typically cheaper than priority mail and is delivered in under 5 days locally and 2 weeks nationally. It’s also a good choice for time-sensitive campaigns and making sure that your audience receives the message as soon as possible.

On the other hand, standard mail is ideal for non-time sensitive campaigns and bulk mailings. It’s commonly used for marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, catalogs, newsletters and pamphlets. It can also be used for sending bills, invoices and correspondence to customers. It’s also more affordable than other mail services and can be mailed in large quantities at once. It’s often referred to as bulk mail and can be pre-sorted to qualify for discounts on postal rates, but there is a minimum amount of pieces required.

Standard mail is not able to provide the same level of service as first class mail, and it does not offer options for mail forwarding or returns on outdated addresses (unless a special endorsement is added). This can be problematic if your business is relying on a large portion of outdated addresses in its database. Performing regular list maintenance and NCOA updating can cut down on this issue.
