When mailing a letter, postcard, or package across the country, it can take a while to get it to its destination. The USPS is a reliable option and they offer a variety of shipping options to suit almost everyone’s needs. The type of mail you send and where it is being sent from or to can affect delivery timeframes. The post office also has a service called Hold Mail that you can use to request your mail be held for up to 30 days.
The USPS has a number of different shipping options available, including First Class Mail. This is a cost-effective option for sending letters and small packages. The post office defines a small package as anything that weighs 13 ounces or less. First Class Mail typically takes between one to five business days to reach its destination.
If you need to send larger items, the USPS offers Media Mail. This is a service for sending CDs, flash drives, and similar items. Media Mail typically arrives in two to eight business days.
The postal service divides the United States into nine zones. The closer you are to the center of a zone, the faster your mail will travel. In addition, the distance between your zip codes can affect delivery times.
If you live on campus, your mail and packages will be delivered to the MSU Post Office. Packages will be held until you come by to pick them up. If you want to have your mail and packages delivered to your room, be sure to check the box at move-in for directions to your mailbox location or ask your resident advisor if there is a key or combination to your door.
